Julia Unverferth (Hamburg/Germany)
lives and works in Hamburg, studied Fine Arts at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (Monika Baer, Jutta Koether). Her artistic work is affected by the scepticism of the media philosopher Jean Baudrillard towards reality. Unverferth sees her work as a kind of research, in which she examines the different conditions of “picture-making.” Her interest pertains positions of artistic abstraction, neuro-aesthetic reception conditions and the problem of the new in art or the “already-been-there”, from which she draws experiments of copy and repeat.
“When I paint, I create a painting which consists of a pinch of neuro-aesthetic processes, a piece of painterly learned convention, a tablespoon of abstract art, 200ml environment, ½ tsp science and 50g specified targets.”
